Oklahoma City vs. Tulsa: The Ultimate Showdown
Why Oklahoma City Takes the Lead
Hey there, it’s Marcie Billen, your trusted real estate agent in the vibrant Oklahoma City Metro area. I first moved to Norman, Oklahoma, back in 2007 when I was just 18 years old – yeah, that does reveal a bit about my age! While I didn’t initially plan to stay in Norman after graduation, life had other ideas. Today, I want to share my strong convictions about why Oklahoma City shines brighter than Tulsa. If you’re curious about the differences between these two cities, don’t worry; I’ve got another video on that topic, and I’ll link it at the end of this post.
Tulsa: A Glimpse into the Past
Tulsa boasts a rich history, having been established long before Oklahoma City. While both cities share a similar cost of living, Tulsa has its own unique charm, with older homes that carry stories of the past. The job market in Tulsa is also quite promising.
Oklahoma City: A Land of Opportunities
Now, let’s talk about why I believe Oklahoma City takes the cake. Firstly, it’s important to note that Oklahoma City covers a significantly larger land area than Tulsa, a deliberate design choice by the city’s founders. While I hold immense love for my parents, who reside close to Tulsa, the big reason I prefer Oklahoma City is the boundless opportunities it offers.
A Transformational Journey Since MAPS
Oklahoma City underwent a transformation since the early 1990s when the Metropolitan Area Projects, or MAPS, was introduced. In 1993, the city’s residents voted to tax themselves to fund projects aimed at rejuvenating the city, particularly around downtown and the river. Remarkably, these projects were debt-free, as the citizens paid for them upfront.
Discover the Asian District
One of my favorite aspects of Oklahoma City is the Asian District. After the Vietnam War, a wave of Vietnamese immigrants settled in Oklahoma City, primarily in the area between 23rd and 36th Streets known as the Asian District. Here, you’ll find a treasure trove of Asian restaurants, grocery stores, unique shops, and delightful neighborhoods.
The Thrills of Bricktown
Bricktown is a lively district home to hotels and restaurants, catering to the enthusiastic crowds that flock to watch the Oklahoma City Thunder play at the Paycom Center (formerly the Chesapeake Center). Interestingly, Oklahoma City’s journey to acquire an NBA team was quite the adventure, involving an unexpected twist related to Hurricane Katrina.
The Cool OKC Airport Experience
If you’re a travel enthusiast like me, you’ll appreciate the convenience of Will Rogers International Airport in Oklahoma City. With quick security lines, striking murals, and a great ambiance, it’s a fantastic place to start your journey. Plus, you can park your car at the OKC airport for just six dollars a day – quite the deal!
A Thriving Hub for Young Professionals
Once upon a time, Oklahoma City had few young professionals, but today, it’s a different story. Thriving neighborhoods are now predominantly inhabited by young professionals, making it an ideal place to kickstart your career, build a home, and enjoy outdoor activities.
A Proud and Connected Community
Oklahomans take immense pride in their state, fostering a strong sense of community both within and beyond the city limits. Don’t just take my word for it; explore my videos, especially the one called I hate living in Oklahoma. You’ll find a vibrant community of commenters who love sharing their insights and experiences. Feel free to join the conversation! I have included some helpful guides that are free to download.
